Westside Wrap-Up

Last Thursday's inaugural Westside branch meeting was a great success! Meghan O'Brien and Stephanie Westendorf hosted the discussion of AAC Funding on 2/11/16 at Language and Learning Centers of Los Angeles. If you weren't able to attend, you're in luck! Meghan O'Brien has shared the slides with us (download HERE).

We will wait to hear when we can expect a second meeting of the Westside branch of SCAACN will be held - and we hope that you will join us!
Thanks to all the Networkers that made the Westside happen!

FREE! Implementation Strategies for AAC (Wed 2/24)

Implementation Strategies for AAC - 3 hour

This condensed training focuses on strategies to teach and promote the use of an augmentative communication system to get students to independently initiate spontaneous, novel utterances rather than simply repeating pre-stored sentences when prompted.  The strategies presented will cover a range of communication ages and abilities, including those at the level of emerging language and literacy. The teaching strategies presented are appropriate for a wide variety of devices and programs.

You do not need to bring an AAC device to the training.

The training is not limited to people using PRC devices.

This training is appropriate for anyone (teacher, SLP, parent, paraprofessional, etc.) working with a student using a communication device.

Workshop: Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (Anaheim, 5/20/15)

This workshop introduces the principles of UDL taught using the principles of UDL filled with activities.
The morning focus emphasizes understanding the 3 principles of UDL and practicing each principle.  In the afternoon sessions, teachers are given scenarios to teach and practice integrating the three principles into a lesson plan. These plans are shared with the whole group for added suggestions. Ideas flow easily and teachers leave with a strong basic understanding of UDL and its implementation.
